It has been written that it takes 10,000 hours to become good at something. If you spent 8 hours everyday working on “getting good at something”, this equates to 1250 days, which equals 3 years and 42 days. The measure of hours vs. months or years is helpful as we go about the quest for becoming good at something. The notion of “good at something” is relative and often has something to do with a process required to accomplish something else bigger. I have noticed there are other significant measures of time that impact the 10,000 hours for instance, I read that the average person spends 80 hours a year just looking for stuff. There is a similar statistic for the number of hours spent commuting or being stuck in traffic jams. You can fill in the blank about how much time you waste in other ways, everyday, in one year’s time. By understanding and utilizing these facts to our advantage, we can actually figure out how to gain more time in our lives.
